Ok I know this is going to sound pathetic, but sometimes I wish i could magically make my favorite guy characters in book could hop out and I could be with them. I totally believe that bumper sticker Boy in books are better. As you all know the guy i have been crushing on CB, well he took this girl with him to fightland and from the attitude that kristy mentioned it, it seemed like he might like her. I am happy for him, I really am he is a great guy, for the most part. However, I am alittle sad because I did like him. I just really want to meet someone who would love me for who I am. Thats all I want in life is to be happy. I want to be in love and I have never experienced that before and I really want to. I mean that feeling is the most cherished of all feelings and one day i hope to experience that one day. More tomarrow...really tired. Night

I snoozed until 8.20, then scrambled into clothing and neatened up and packed up for 8.30 because Iapos;m impressive like that. Met up with Batgirl in the corridor and we went on our way toward chemi.

She, as usual, had to meat Laura by Palmer. I just kept going. Met up with Jo in chemi and sat down in front row. For a sec. I had been concerned someone had taken my seat up front, but then I realized it was a friend and relaxed.

I ranted about my inability to sleep and sickness. I then felt far less angry at Mary and Andrea which was nice. Read through Contented Little Pussycat quickly. Batgirl bopped me on the head on her way up to her seat.

The lecture was pretty easy. I had to blow my nose through most of it, but I monitored when I did so. My coughing I couldnapos;t control so much. It was slightly funny that during pretty much the entire lecture at least someone was coughing, and often if one person coughed loud enough the others felt brave enough to let out a few coughs.

I watched Professor Page. Sheapos;s so, so tiny Yet she has a similar physical presence to the Cavinator. But like the latter, sheapos;s not so great at gathering the attention of a rowdy class - another boy had to whistle from up back. She thanked him and smiled. I can tell now that she has a rather prominent overbite, and thatapos;s why her words are often formed strangely, especially with s-sounds. It had intrigued me for a while because it was different from a lisp.

Workshop I went down; Batgirl and Laura slipped into my group instead of going in the other group. I finished the work sheet well even without a calculator and pointed out that they had told us to answer to two significant figures, but that wouldnapos;t require much math, and thought they might have been looking for decimals. They said they were. I got the hang of writing out cross and dot bonds and how many bonds / what type of bonds are present. Got it all right and off I went

Hung out with Batgirl and Laura up in their seats on the right center of the room. They fed me crisps and crackers.

Went back for the second part of the lecture. It was still easy, just talking about ionic bonds. No bug dwak, as the Cavinator would say. Itapos;s slightly obnoxious to have friends in the class so early in the game because Batgirl and Laura are the type to be all set and ready BEFORE the professor has stopped talking, and Iapos;m the type who takes her royal drag-arse time just so she can have a contrived word with the professor seemingly due to her own slow timing. But instead I always have Batgirl and Laura right in front of me when lecture ends, so even though I dawdle some, there are always a few students left talking to the Professor and the other two tugging me out. I reluctantly leave. I really like Professor Pageapos;s aura. She smiles easily, can joke with herself, and is all-round pleasant.

Met up with Spork (previously Piotr from Poland) and Jo. Laughed about how when three of us are together weapos;re 1/3rd of the ecology major. We chatted and joked for a while, then Batgirl and I went back for lunch. It was pathetic. We came back up and I worked in her room. I felt too yuck to walk all the way to New Ag even as she had drawn me a beautiful out-of-scale map that we joked around with.

Instead I stayed in her room reading slowly and being sick. I didnapos;t get much done today. Itapos;s a bit rubbish. So tomorrow Iapos;ll have to go to Plant Diversity, have a practical, come back for lunch, go drop off my forms at New Ag, and come back to go to town with Batgirl. Then back here for some work. Iapos;m getting into it, though, which is nice.

Iapos;m in bed instead of watching a movie with the others. Mary is playing Family Guy. Iapos;ve taken my pre-sleep pain killer already so thatapos;s kicking in. Think Iapos;ll write for a bit and then read before I fall asleep. Hoping I can make it through the night tonight

Iapos;m headed back to PA tomorrow for an overnight trip campaigning in North Philly. The past two days that Iapos;ve canvassed were amazing--tiring but so rewarding. Even when I didnapos;t make the best case I could, I wasnapos;t demoralized--I was just ready to try again, to make another argument, talk to another undecided voter.

So if you are in or near PA, or VA, or OH, or WV or FL or NM or IN or any other state thatapos;s in play, go volunteer. Itapos;s worth your time more than anything else you could be doing, unless that happens to be, like, walking the Appalachian Trail, which definitely gets a pass.

I posted not too long ago about something that happened on "Bones," a guilty television pleasure of mine. Iapos;m not generally into the forensics shows, but that one somehow crept past my defenses, in large part because I like most of the cast. So I work with someone whoapos;s a big booster of "NCIS," which seems like almost the same show to me, but the few times Iapos;ve caught snippets of it, I found it much less endearing because the cast members did nothing for me at all. I guess itapos;s a nice change to see Mark Harmon playing a tough guy instead of the smiley-faced, genial sweethearts he used to crank out regularly (although whether he actually pulls off the tough guy bit is a different discussion...), but mostly in my mind, the "Bones" cast clobbers the "NCIS" cast across the board. Still, because my co-worker is so in love with the show, I sampled a couple of episodes in a row yesterday as TBS or USA or one of the other cable networks was rerunning a mini-marathon of them...

And wow, is the camera work always so hyperactive and ADD? They seemed to shoot every scene with at least three or four cameras, and every second and a half or so, theyapos;d switch vantage point, throwing in the occasional quick zoom-in or zoom-out for good measure (and for no discernible reason). It was like they knew they were presenting a very standard, run of the mill police procedural/forensics thing, but thought they could maybe fool audiences into thinking it was super-exciting by bouncing around points of view like basketballs. It didnapos;t make me literally nauseous the way The Blair Witch shaky-cam did, but it was damn distracting -- had I not known ahead of time that it was a serious show, Iapos;d have almost thought that it was a spoof of something. It was really that overdone. And the stories were nothing special, either. Anyway, I do try to be open-minded, and Iapos;m glad I checked it out again...but I think Iapos;ll stick with "Bones."

feminist theory definition

Dear Reader,

I almost succumbed to whimsy. I thought it might be amusing, for an essay on mistaken identity, to leave a one or two line post. Said post would read: Move along. This is not the post you are looking for..

I was amused. Then I thought that you might not be amused. I do not wish to be kicked off the playground any time soon. (Especially on the inauspicious day of my -yikes- 30th birthday) So instead, I would like to provide you with examples of my favorite form of mistaken identity, mistaken identity as plot device/cliche

I)The Romantic Comedy

Hereapos;s how mistaken identity might play out in a romantic comedy:

"I took your advice," her twin sister continued. "I talked to Andrew."

Dana was surprised. Olivia had been obsessed with the man since last summer. Sheapos;d tried everything she could do to get him to notice her. Everything, that was, but actually talk to him. Dana had tried for weeks to get Olivia to talk to him. She was glad Olivia had finally listened to her.

Still, Dana knew her sister. Nothing ever went smoothly when Olivia was involved.

"And?" she prompted, waiting for the inevitable disaster.

A rueful smile twisted Oliviaapos;s mouth. "It was going great- until I realized that Andrew thought he was talking to you. Dana..."

Dana had heard that tone before. The last time sheapos;d heard it, Olivia wanted her to take an algebra test for her. Being soft hearted at the time, Dana said yes. Two weeks of being grounded had hardened her heart since then.

"No," she said before her sister could make the suggestion.

"Please, please, please?" Olivia begged. "Just one date. Iapos;ll tell him at the end of the night. It will be fine, heapos;ll be okay with it when he realizes he had a good time with me."

The real panic in her sisterapos;s voice weakened Danaapos;s resolve. Annoyed at herself and her sister, Dana reached for the one thing that might get her out of this without looking like the bad guy.

"I have a boyfriend, Olivia," she reminded her sister. Olivia had apparently already considered that issue.

"Iapos;ll go out with him that night pretending to be you," she said. "Iapos;ve thought it all through, believe me. Nothing can go wrong with this plan."

II) The Romance Novel

If this were a (very badly written) romance novel, hereapos;s how mistaken identity might be used:

Cassandra shivered. The night had turned cold as she talked with Lord Sanderling. The chilling breeze swirled over her bare shoulders and fashionable decolletage. With a sudden longing, she recalled her favorite wool shawl. Too plain by half for this fair assemblage, yet at the moment Cassandra would give the whole glittering scene for its simple comforts.

Thoughts of the shaw led to thoughts of hearth and home. A familiar sadness filled her heart. Not for the first time, she wondered at the circumstances which lead her to navigate this possibly disastrous course. It seemed possible she should have never left home, despite Felixapos;s constant assurances to the contrary.

Felix Despite the chill, her cheeks flushed at the thought of him. At first, when he suggested this game, she refused to play. Her, a lady The only ladylike quality she possessed was an uncanny resemblance to the foreign Queenapos;s dearest cousin. Yet Felix had insisted she could be taught to pass for that estimable personage.

The idea was laughable.

She refused him, until offered in a marriage that appalled both her morals and her aesthetics. Presented with that alternative, she said yes to Felixapos;s mad scheme. Tonight, after her conversation with Lord Sanderling, she could only wonder if she had truly made the best decision. If this case of mistaken identity would not only cost her her heart, but her life as well.

III) The Thriller

Or perhaps youapos;re into thrillers? Itapos;s not only a person that might be mistaken for something theyapos;re not. Iapos;m afraid our heroine has made a rather costly mistake, simply by not looking before she grabbed:

For a moment, all Dorothy could do was stare at the blank computer screen.

Then she sprang forward. Her hands flew over the keyboard as she searched desperately for the file she needed. "Come on," she ground out, panic tightening in her chest. "Come on, be here."

Nothing. The flash drive was empty. "Itapos;s not here," she said in disbelief.

From behind, she heard the safety on his gun click off.

Dorothy closed her eyes. She took a deep, calming breath. There was one last possible answer to this problem. She grabbed at it like a lifeline, and hoped it was enough to buy her some time.

"My desk mate and I bought the same flash drive," Dorothy said evenly. "She used my computer earlier today. I must have grabbed her flash drive by mistake."

Long seconds passed. "Miss Dorothy, I suggest you fix this mistake," said her would-be killer. "In the next three hours, or weapos;ll be having this conversation again. I promise you, it wonapos;t end as pleasantly the second time."

Iapos;m certain there are other uses for mistaken identity in writing. Iapos;d like to discuss them at greater length. However, I seem to have encountered a problem that requires my immediate attention. There is a man here who is quite insistent that I am the missing heiress to a considerable fortune. Oh dear.

Wondering if I should set him straight or ask for "my" charge cards,
